Find and Replace

Need to change a word throughout an entire document? Rename a character in your manuscript? Fix a repeated typo? Our Find and Replace tool does what word processors do—but faster, simpler, and right in your browser. Paste your text, specify what to find and what to replace it with, and click once.
Beyond simple word swaps, this tool handles bulk editing efficiently. Replace a company name throughout a contract, update product names in marketing copy, or fix consistent misspellings in large documents. Case-sensitive matching ensures 'Apple' and 'apple' are handled differently when needed, or treat them the same with case-insensitive mode.
Your text stays private. All find-and-replace processing happens locally in your browser—nothing is sent to servers, nothing is stored, nothing is tracked. Edit confidential documents, legal texts, or personal writing with complete peace of mind. Paste, replace, copy, done.

Getting the most from find and replace
Case-sensitive replacement
When enabled, only exact case matches are replaced. 'John' only matches 'John'—not 'john' or 'JOHN.' Use this when capitalization carries meaning, like proper names or acronyms.
Deleting instead of replacing
Leave the replacement field empty to delete found text entirely. This is useful for removing unwanted phrases, stripping formatting markers, or cleaning up artifacts.
Whole word matching
Be careful with short words. Replacing 'is' might accidentally change 'this' to 'ththat' if whole-word matching isn't used. Add spaces around your search term when needed.
Multi-step replacements
For complex edits, do multiple replacement passes. First replace term A with term B, then replace term C with term D. Each change builds on the previous.
Checking your changes
Scroll through the output text to verify replacements happened correctly before copying. Unexpected matches sometimes occur with short or common strings.
Keeping original text
Your input text stays unchanged until you modify it. If a replacement goes wrong, you still have the original to work with.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the find and replace tool free?
Yes, completely free with no limits on text length or replacement count.
Does it replace all occurrences at once?
Yes, clicking replace swaps every matching instance in your text. If 'cat' appears 50 times and you replace it with 'dog,' all 50 change at once.
Can I match case exactly?
Absolutely. Enable case-sensitive matching to distinguish between 'Apple' (proper noun) and 'apple' (fruit). Only exact case matches will be replaced.
Can I delete text instead of replacing it?
Yes—leave the replacement field empty. Finding 'unwanted text' and replacing with nothing removes all instances.
What if I want to replace only the first occurrence?
Our current tool replaces all occurrences. For single-instance replacement, you'd need to edit manually after identifying the location.
Does it handle special characters?
Yes, you can find and replace punctuation, symbols, and special characters. Whatever you type in the find field is matched literally.
Is my text private?
Yes. All processing happens in your browser. Your text never touches our servers, isn't stored, and isn't seen by anyone.
Can I replace line breaks or tabs?
Basic find and replace works with visible characters. For line breaks and tabs, specialized text cleaning tools work better.
How long can my text be?
There's no practical limit. We've tested with documents over 100,000 words without issues.
Can I undo a replacement?
Your original text stays in the input area until you change it. If something goes wrong, it's still there to work with.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, the interface is fully responsive. Find and replace works on phones and tablets just as well as desktops.
Can I use this for code?
Yes! Developers often use find and replace for renaming variables, changing strings, or updating configuration values. Just be careful with partial matches.
