Remove Duplicate Lines
Loading tool...
Messy data with repeated entries? Email lists with duplicates? Log files cluttered with identical lines? Our Duplicate Line Remover cleans everything up in one click. Paste your text, and we'll strip out every repeated line, leaving only unique entries behind.
This tool is a lifesaver for data cleaning. Developers use it to dedupe log files and database exports. Marketers clean email lists before imports. Writers remove accidentally repeated paragraphs. Whatever your source—spreadsheet columns, code outputs, or pasted lists—we'll find and remove the duplicates.
You control what 'duplicate' means. Choose case-sensitive matching (where 'Apple' and 'apple' are different) or case-insensitive (where they're the same). Want to preserve your original order or sort the results? Both options are available. And like all our tools, processing happens entirely in your browser—your data never leaves your device.

Understanding duplicate removal options
Case-sensitive vs case-insensitive
Case-sensitive treats 'Apple' and 'apple' as different lines—both stay. Case-insensitive sees them as duplicates and keeps only one. Choose based on whether capitalization matters for your data.
Preserving original order
By default, we keep lines in their original order, removing later occurrences when duplicates are found. The first appearance of each unique line stays where it was.
Handling whitespace
Lines with different spacing might look identical but aren't. 'Hello World' and 'Hello World' (two spaces) are considered different. Trim extra spaces before deduplication if this causes issues.
Working with large files
We can process thousands of lines without slowdown. For extremely large files (millions of lines), processing may take a few seconds but will complete successfully.
Empty lines
Multiple blank lines are considered duplicates. If you have many blank lines, deduplication will reduce them to just one (or remove all blanks if you filter them).
Data safety
Your original text stays in the input area until you change it. If results don't look right, adjust options and try again—nothing is permanently altered.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the duplicate remover free?
Yes, completely free with no limits on how much text you can process or how often you use it.
Does it keep the first or last occurrence?
It keeps the first occurrence of each unique line and removes later duplicates. This preserves your original order.
Can I process very long lists?
Yes, we handle thousands of lines easily. Even lists with tens of thousands of entries process quickly in modern browsers.
Does it work with email lists?
Perfectly. Paste your list of email addresses (one per line), and we'll remove any duplicates. Great for cleaning subscriber lists before platform imports.
What about nearly-identical lines with slight differences?
Lines must be exactly identical to count as duplicates. 'john@email.com' and 'John@email.com' are different unless you choose case-insensitive matching. Trailing spaces also make lines different.
Is my data private?
Absolutely. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your text never reaches our servers, isn't logged, and isn't stored anywhere.
Can I undo the deduplication?
Your original text stays in the input field until you modify it. If you need to start over, just refresh or paste your original data again.
Does it remove blank lines?
Multiple consecutive blank lines are considered duplicates, so they'll be reduced to one. To remove all blank lines entirely, use a line-break remover tool instead.
Can I use this for spreadsheet data?
Yes! Copy a column from Excel or Google Sheets, paste it here, remove duplicates, then paste the cleaned data back. Much faster than using spreadsheet formulas.
Does it tell me how many duplicates were removed?
You can compare the line count in the input versus output to see exactly how many duplicates were eliminated.
What if I want to keep duplicates and just find them?
This tool removes duplicates. To identify them without removing, you'd need a duplicate finder tool—though we may add that feature in the future.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, the interface is fully responsive and works great on phones and tablets.
